About Us

Black Diamond Equipment is built around a deep connection to climbing, skiing, hiking, running, and mountain adventure. Its heritage traces back to Chouinard Equipment and the climbing culture established in 1965. In 1989, the company became Black Diamond and moved to Salt Lake City, placing its design and engineering work close to the Wasatch Mountains.

Today, Black Diamond develops equipment and apparel for people who spend serious time outside. Its product range covers climbing hardware, harnesses, helmets, carabiners, climbing protection, chalk, packs, trekking poles, headlamps, ski equipment, gloves, insulation, technical shells, pants, and other mountain essentials. The brand also offers dedicated collections for hiking, trail running, alpine pursuits, and everyday outdoor use.

A defining part of the Black Diamond approach is designing from the perspective of actual users. Product development combines engineering, laboratory testing, field testing, repeated evaluation, and refinement. This user-focused process helps create equipment intended to function naturally within demanding mountain environments rather than simply looking technical.

From a climbing rack prepared for a long route to trekking poles on a remote trail or a headlamp needed before sunrise, Black Diamond brings together technical expertise, mountain heritage, and practical innovation. Its collections are designed for climbers, skiers, runners, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts who expect their equipment to perform when conditions become challenging.
